Just a chapter a day, five days a week. HEAR stands for highlight, explain, apply, and respond. Moore teaches us why family is so important, and so difficult at times. Why do our families have so much power over us? Family can be the source of some of the most transcendent human joy, and family can leave us crumpled up on the side of the road.

Family can make us who we are, and family can break our hearts. Why would this social arrangement have that much power, for good or for ill, over us? Moore and his wife have five sons.

Lent is a time of conversion — a time to return to the Lord in whatever ways you have turned against him: in your attitudes, your conversations, your plans and goals, even in your hopes and dreams. Are you in any way choosing to do what you want, rather than what the Lord wants?

Examine your conscience based on the areas I just listed. Prepare for Lent so that when Ash Wednesday arrives, you are ready to get down to the great work of conversion. I call it a great work because when you cooperate with the Lord — not hiding your sin, not excusing it, not minimizing it, but facing it straight on — you will be amazed at the freedom the admission brings you. We spend so much energy hiding and excusing our sins and transgressions, even burying them, that we have little energy or room in our lives for all the good things God wants to give us.

Yes, there is confession available during Lent — take advantage more than once if you can. It enables you to begin Lent with a clear conscience. Lent is much more than facing sin. God has so much of his life to share with you.

Tabletalk Magazine

We want to hate sin as God does because God knows that sin impedes his presence and his action in our lives. By sin we say no to God! Other times I finish them off with a coat of paint or varnish. I have to look at each piece to see what would be best for it.

Sometimes I like the natural grains of the wood to show through. Sometimes I think a piece may look better painted completely or maybe paint a little design on it. When I coat something with paint or varnish, I have to do it in layers and allow each layer to dry before I apply the next.

That is how the Lord does when He works in our lives. How will our beauty show through? How will we glorify Him the best? He coats us with things in our lives that will help us as we grow in Him. Step by step, He strengthens and guides us. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. Some are shelves to put things on or maybe a dresser with drawers for storage. Other things are basically just for me to enjoy.

They are my little treasures and they all bring me joy and satisfaction. The Lord has a purpose for each of us. He uses us all in different ways, gives us different gifts, and embellishes our lives with the perfect touch. We may not even know the purpose of some of the things we go through.

Transformed Into Jesus’ Image

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. In the end, I can find something beautiful under all the grime, dirt, and broken down shape that a piece may start out in. Part of it says, Something beautiful, something good; all my confusion He understood. One of the greatest joys I know of as a Christian is watching new Christians grow in the Lord. Sometimes it is dramatic. Other times it happens little by little, but it is a wonderful process to watch.

I have been a Christian since I was nine years old 41 years , and I still am in a process of growing and being made over by my Lord.
